《初代奥特曼：空想特摄》是以日本老牌特摄片《奥特曼（ULTRAMAN）》为题材所制作，有别于以往多以格斗游戏为主，本游戏将以重现“空想特摄戏剧”为游戏呈现的重点。游戏将以“故事模式”与“大怪兽乱斗”两部分所构成，玩家将扮演表面上是科特队队员，实际上体内隐藏着M-78星云奥特曼力量的早田队员，当怪兽出现时，玩家先以科特队队员的身分迎战，进行如同电视剧般的故事模式，等到条件成熟，就变身为奥特曼与怪兽展开大乱斗。
