In the Philippines, the rickshaw is called the "tuk-tuk," an extremely accurate onomatopoetic name. In India, it's usually just referred to as an "auto." I've also heard "rick." The original Thai Tuk-Tuk is found in many places in Thailand, mostly operating as an open air taxi. One driver named Jumrush Vhooonsri began an initiative to create a tuk tuk factory in his garage. Vhooonsri altered the structure of the tuk tuk: adding a roof, proper seating, and replacing the engine from a rickshaw to a motorized engine. The tuk-tuk (or "auto rickshaw" in some countries) is a sputtering, three-wheeled motorcycle taxi with origins as a cheap public transportation option. Tuk-tuks perpetually jockey for position and clog the streets in Asia from Bangkok to Bangalore
